Take card payments
With card payments set up, customers pay from the estimate or invoice email, or on site by scanning a code on your phone.
What the customer sees
- Deposits: on the online estimate, the customer taps Accept and pay with the deposit amount. They can also accept and pay by bank transfer instead.
- Invoices: the email has a Pay now button. The invoice page shows To pay, the due date and Pay now, with your bank details and payment reference under Or pay by bank transfer. Payments already made are taken off.
- Paying: a secure payment page opens where they pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or, if you offer it, Pay by Bank. Afterwards they see a thank-you message and that a receipt is coming by email.
Take a card payment on site
- Open the job and go to Payments & deposits.
- Tap Take card payment. Under it you’ll see what it is for: the deposit for the estimate, or what is left to pay on the invoice.
- A QR code appears. Ask the customer to scan it with their phone camera and pay on the secure page.
- Or tap Open on this phone to let them pay on yours, or Copy link to send it by message.
Paid shows on the job once the payment is confirmed. Taking a card payment needs a connection.
Good to know
- Card payments are recorded on the job and invoice for you, with the fee shown on the payment. A payment counts only once it is confirmed. Pay by Bank can take a few minutes.
- To undo a card payment, refund it. See Refund a payment.
- If a customer disputes a card payment with their bank, the invoice page asks for nothing more until the dispute is settled, and no reminders go out. The Payments page shows it under Needs attention.
Who can do this? On the Team plan, the Owner, Office and Sales can take card payments.
