How quantities and waste are worked out

Every quantity starts from the rooms you measured, and each card shows the same figure the Summary and your documents use.

Carpet and vinyl sheet

  • On a laid-out cutting plan: the plan’s roll length times its roll width.
  • Not on a plan: each room is its own cut, its length plus the extra length per cut, times its roll width. A room with joins is cut piece by piece.
  • Net width: just the room’s own area.
  • Stairs not on a plan yet: their measured pieces plus the extra length per cut, until a cutting plan gives the exact figure.

Waste is what you order minus the room area. The percentage is the waste as a share of what you order, the same way the cutting plan shows it.

Planks and tiles

The rooms’ area plus the Extra material %, divided by what one pack covers. With Order full packs only on, it’s rounded up to whole packs.

Extras

  • Underlay per m²: the chosen rooms’ area plus the extra %. Order full rolls only rounds up to whole rolls. Priced per roll, you enter the number of rolls, and the card tells you how many the chosen rooms need.
  • Gripper: the edges of the chosen rooms, less doorways if you switch that on, divided by the strip length and rounded up. Boxes are rounded up too.
  • Smoothing compound: area times thickness, divided by what one unit covers at its stated thickness, plus the waste %, rounded up to whole units.
  • Sheet underlayment: area divided by the sheet size, plus the waste %, rounded up to whole sheets.
  • Extras per pack: area plus the extra %, divided by what one pack covers, rounded up.
  • Flat rate items: the number you enter times the price. They have no waste.

Net area or order size

When you choose rooms for an item, pick Net area (each room’s measured area) or Order size (the size of carpet ordered for each room). Labour per m² is often charged on one or the other.

Good to know

  • Items follow their rooms. Resize a room and every item on it updates.
  • Type an Area override to charge your own figure instead.
  • A cutting plan that has changed since it was saved prices its changed rooms from their own sizes until you arrange and save it again. The Summary says so.
