Draw a room shape

For rooms that aren’t a plain rectangle, draw the shape in the room editor and set each wall to the size you measured.

Pick a starting shape

  1. In Rooms & measurements, tap + Add room, then Draw room.
  2. Tap the shape nearest your room: Rectangle, L shape, T shape, U shape, Notched square (a square with a notch cut out of each corner) or Room with bay.
  3. For anything else, tap Draw by points. Tap to place each corner, then tap the first point again to close the shape.

Set the walls

  1. Tap a wall. The bar at the bottom shows which wall it is, for example Top edge · 1 of 4.
  2. Tap − or + to change its length (hold to go faster). Or tap the length itself: a phone shows a wheel to pick it, and on a computer you type it.
  3. Tap Next to move around the room wall by wall.
  4. Tap Done, then Add room (or Save on a room you’re changing).

A new room then asks What room is this? so you can name it.

More wall tools

  • Swap end: an arrow shows which corner moves when you change the length. Swap end moves the other one instead.
  • Add point splits the wall in two, so you can step it in or out for a notch or a recess.
  • Remove takes a corner out and joins its two walls into one.
  • You can also drag a corner with your finger.

The tools along the bottom

  • Edit (phones and tablets) opens Size and seams: the room’s width and length, and its joins. On a computer these are in the side panel.
  • Rotate turns the room. View lets you move and zoom the drawing.
  • Measure is a tape measure for checking distances. See Check a distance with the tape measure.
  • Snap lines things up as you draw. Undo and Redo step back and forward.

Good to know

  • Walls are kept to the whole inch, or to the centimeter on a metric job. A wall must be at least 4 in (10 cm).
  • To change a drawn room later, tap the pencil (Edit room) on its card.
  • Joins: if a room needs a seam, open Size and seams and tap Add seam. Each split shows how far it is from the left wall. Drag it on the drawing, or nudge it, until the seam is where you want it. The room is then cut as separate pieces: Main and Join A, Join B and so on.
  • Closing the editor with unsaved changes asks before throwing them away.
